Het Rozenwonder or The Miracle of the Roses / 536cm X 444cm / muralpainting in oilpaint
This mural, created for ldc De Plek and Bosbeekhof care home in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, is rooted in the local history of the village and the former Sint-Elisabeth residence. The research process was guided by local heritage expert Willy Van Hoof (Erf en Heem vzw), who introduced the region’s agricultural past through walks and printed publications.
The composition was developed in dialogue with the residents, incorporating their personal memories.
One of these is the scene of cauliflower harvesting, where children would help in the fields before going to school.
The mural is intentionally treated to evoke traces of time, giving it the appearance of a discovered or restored image.
Architectural elements within the image, such as the tower of the first Saint Catherine’s Church—destroyed in 1914 during the First World War—further reinforce the connection to the past.
